The Department of Physiotherapy conducting regular monthly Community Based Rehabilitation programme in Kandy district in collaboration with the Social service department. The main purpose of this Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) programme is to enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities and their families and to support them for social inclusion by meeting their basic needs. The department has conducted this CBR programme in Pasbage Korale, Gangawata korale, Yatinuwara, Udapalatha, Harispaththuwa, Doluwa and Galagedara divisional secretariat areas so far in the year of 2019. Our utmost effort is to provide best Physiotherapy rehabilitation service for the people with disabilities in the community in order to enhance their quality of life.
Physiotherapy is a highly developing aspect of the current health care system. But unfortunately in Sri Lanka, awareness of public regarding Physiotherapy services is very much less. As pioneers in the Physiotherapy education in Sri Lanka, Department of Physiotherapy is frequently conducting awareness programmes in collaboration with social service department and schools in Kandy District to increase the awareness of public regarding physiotherapy services. It is mainly focusing on providing knowledge regarding physiotherapy, current developments in Physiotherapy field, available physiotherapy services and the benefits of those. In addition to that, the Department of Physiotherapy conducts regular community awareness programmes in the field of Disability, Physical fitness, Ergonomics and Sports injuries.
Global demographics are changing dramatically and elderly populations around the world is rapidly on the
rise. Because of that age related health issues are increasing in considerable amount. Situation in Sri
Lanka is going parallel to the world when we are concerning about geriatric population and their health
issues. Geriatric physiotherapy is a rapidly developing branch of the physiotherapy field. As
Physiotherapists, our goal is to enhance quality of life of elderly population through proper physiotherapy
rehabilitation programme.
The Department of Physiotherapy is conducting elderly care programme in collaboration with Faculty of
Medicine, University of Peradeniya. We conduct several Geriatric Clinics in different Elders’ homes in Kandy
district. We provided physiotherapy services for elderly people who are in the need of physiotherapy
interventions. In addition to that, the students of the department of physiotherapy also engage in geriatric
clinics as a part of their undergraduate programme
The Department of Nursing of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, University of Peradeniya, conducted an educational programme on dental hygiene at the Hamstead International Montessori, Gatambe, Peradeniya on the 24th of March from 10.00AM to 12.00 noon. Nearly 20 preschoolers and five preschool teachers participated the programme. The programme was conducted as a community health service, with the invitation of the management of the Hamstead International Montessori.
