Nursing Pledge Ceremony of Batch 2021/2022


The Nursing Pledge Ceremony was organized by the Department of Nursing for the undergraduate students of Batch 2021/2022 was successfully held on 19th December, 2024 at the Diamond Jubilee Hall of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, University of Peradeniya. The ceremony marked a significant milestone for the nursing students, symbolizing their transition from foundational nursing education to advanced training. During the event, the students were presented with nursing caps and three-wick lamps, symbolizing knowledge, skillful hands, and compassion.


In honor of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, the Nightingale Lamp was lit, and her statue was garlanded during the ceremony. The students took their oath with pride and commitment to upholding the values of the nursing profession. The Department of Nursing was honored to have Mrs. S.L.H. Vithanarachchi, Former Head of the Department of Health Sciences, Open University of Sri Lanka, as the Chief Guest. Mrs. Vithanarachchi, shared valuable insights and inspired the students to continue developing their knowledge, skills, and compassionate attitudes toward patient care.


Professor Yoshie Mori, the esteemed Guest of Honor, graciously traveled from Japan to attend and enrich the Nursing Pledge Ceremony. Professor Mori is an esteemed academic and a global leader in nursing and health sciences. She served as a Professor at the Graduate School of Health Sciences, Gunma University, Japan, and has been at the forefront of advancing nursing education and international health The Department of Nursing is truly grateful for her participation which have added immense value to this special occasion. The ceremony was graced by a distinguished guests, including the Vice Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya, Prof. Terrence Madhujith, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Ranjith Pallegama, and the Dean of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Prof. M.D.M.L.D.K. Yatawara. Alongside them, a distinguished gathering of dean and directors of the University of Peradeniya, academic staff members, hospital staff, and parents were present to witness this pivotal moment, as the students made their formal commitment to the nursing profession.


The success of the event was made possible through the collective effort of many individuals. Dr. Deepanie Pathiranage, Head, Department of Nursing and all the members of the Department of Nursing would like to express sincere gratitude to all those who contributed to this memorable occasion, including academic and non-academic staff, students, and parents. Their tireless efforts ensured the smooth execution of the ceremony. The Department extends their best wishes to the nursing students of the batch 2021/2022, as they continue their journey in the nursing profession and strive to make a meaningful impact in healthcare.
