Welcome to the Department of Basic Sciences, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, University of Peradeniya. Our mission is to provide students with a strong scientific foundation essential for success in Nursing and Allied Health Sciences. We have meticulously designed our curriculum to equip students with the knowledge and skills required for degree programs in Nursing, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Radiography, and Radiotherapy. The department offers a range of foundational courses, including Human Physiology, Human Anatomy, Basic Biochemistry, General Pathology, Basic Statistics, and Analytical Chemistry. These courses are tailored to help students to understand the complexities of living systems and foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and data analysis skills. Through clinical case studies and real-life applications, we prepare students to tackle the challenges of modern healthcare. Our department is supported by a team of highly qualified academic and non- academic staff dedicated to excellence in teaching, research, and the holistic development of our students. Beyond lectures and practical training, we provide opportunities for final-year students to engage in research projects supervised by our department. This hands-on experience nurtures future scientists and healthcare professionals capable of making significant contributions at both national and global levels.
