ROLE OF CLINICAL SKILL LABORATARY IN MAINTAINING & PROMOTING SKILLS PERFORMANCE OF NURSING PROFFESIONALS
Up to near time, Clinical teaching was wholly performed at beside in which patients were used as teaching aids. A new teaching tool as skill laboratory which was clinical laboratories was suggested to solve the problem of inadequacies in bed side teaching. We provide students and visiting health professionals with the opportunity to initially practice clinical techniques on simulators, in a safe environment, without affecting the quality of patient’s care in any way. Nevertheless, it should be regarded as an extra tool for besides teaching and not to replace it.
This skills laboratory is an area of educational resources for teaching clinical skills models of human body, and diagnostic and therapeutic equipment in simulated clinical environment, in addition to space suitable for video recording and groups learning, demonstration and return demonstration.
Clinical skill laboratory can significantly contribute to medical/ nursing education by alternative venues for training, avoiding complication to patients care in traditional clinical settings and by providing standardized and reproducible experiences. In the same time it is important to realize that the main objective of allied health sciences skill laboratory is to help in improving and maintaining clinical skills of health care professionals and not to totally replace bed side teaching.
