Carrier Guidance Workshop


  • Carrier Guidance workshop for 2012/13 batch of students conducted by the Department of Nursing, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences was successfully held on 26 th of November 2018 with the help of alumini of the Department of Nursing at the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences. The head, Department of Nursing Dr. Rasika Illeperuma did welcome the gathering by highlighting the value of effective carrier guidance for the nursing graduates who have just completed their university education.

    Nursing graduates who are working in the different fields of nursing in Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Canada and Seychelles addressed the gathering exploring the correct pathways and new opportunities in respective areas. Dr. Malshani L Pathirathna, senior lecturer of the Department of Nursing, explained the pathway to academia and higher education opportunities and Mr.A.R.Buddika Lakmal, staff nurse at Teaching Hospital Kandy explained the opportunities available for nursing graduates in Sri Lanka in the field of private and public sector.

    More over alumni in foreign countries conducted a very interactive session via Skype. Ms. Dinushi Fernando, Registered Nurse in Matamata country lodge hospital, New Zealand, Ms.Chathurika Suraweera and Mr.Lakmal Jayawardhana ,Registered Practical Nurses in Rouge Valley Hospital, Canada, Mr. Saminda Siriwardhana ,Senior Staff Nurse, Seychelles Hospital Victoria, Seychelles clearly explained respective pathways to their working country. They have introduced the requirements to be completed prior to working as nurse in abroad. Students were highly benefited through this workshop gaining clear insight on carrier opportunities in nursing in Sri Lanka as well as in other countries.
