The Training Program on “Emergency and Disaster Management”


  • The workshop and training program on “Emergency and Disaster Management” targeting the nursing students of batch 2014/2015 was successfully held on 10 th December, 2018 at the Nursing Skills Lab, Department of Nursing, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences. Ms Pushpa Ramyani Zoysa ; a reputed nursing professional in the country and who serves as the national coordinator for training human resources on disaster management at the Accidents and Orthopaedic Services Unit of National Hospital of Sri Lanka has been the resource person for the particular workshop and training program since 2011. The nurses’ role in disaster management, triaging, transportation of the victims, emergency resuscitation and stabilization, patients monitoring and the continuation of nursing care of disaster victims were among the specific areas discussed and trained during this particular program and at the completion, the nursing students who participated at the program were competent and confident enough on knowledge, attitudes and the hands on skills that they gained towards the nursing management of victims either after any emergency or a disaster situation.
